I don’t know if I can put into words how blissfully happy I am this morning. Maryland passed marriage equality. Which means that all the people I passed going to work this morning, sat next to on the train, stood in line behind to get coffee…they all voted for or against me and my family. And they voted for me to have equal rights. I wanted to hug everyone on the way in this morning.
It’s really hard to describe the feeling that comes along with people not just tolerating you, but that actually believe you to be equal. And the fact is, the majority of my neighbors believe this. And while they were voting to re-elect Obama (DOUBLE BONUS), they checked that box that basically said “do you think Nikki Smalls deserves to have the same rights as you?”
Thank you, Maryland, for saying “sure, why not?”
Now I must push onward, and get all this Gay delivered. We are a minority, so it takes a while to force our Gay onto all you straights. Be patient. Everyone will get their turn.
